Helford Village is regarded by many as one of the most sought after locations in Cornwall. It’s architectural and geographical beauty coupled with its sheer tranquillity make this an ideal holiday destination. For sailing & walking enthusiasts the area offers excellent facilities and opportunities for exploring the many beautifully wooded creeks including notably Frenchman’s Creek as immortalised by Daphne de Maurier in her novel of the same. Christmas Cottage (Sleeps 4 and a cot) and is set in the heart of this beautiful and exclusive village nestled on the Lizard Peninsula. Sorry, we have a strict no pets and no smoking in our cottages policy. To read what our guests say about staying at Christmas Cottage, please keep scrolling to the bottom of this page.

Christmas Cottage (centre picture) has private parking for two cars and two gardens, one quay side and one woodland to the rear of the cottage.

Xmas-breakfast-room.jpg

The dining room at Christmas Cottage features a walk-in Ingelnook fireplace.

Xmas-Master-Bedroom.jpg

The master bedroom at Christmas Cottage features a king-size brass bed. From the sashed window there are pretty village views.

Xmas-Bedroom-2.jpg

The second bedroom at Christmas Cottage features two single beds, a window seat with village views and ample storage. The salvaged ship beam, brass porthole and nautical furnishings gives this room an idyllic sail away theme.

Xmas-lounge.jpg

The lounge at Christmas Cottage features two, two seater sofa's, and an open fire. Pretty village views can can be seen from the window seat. Widescreen TV with DVD, video and Digibox are also provided.

Xmas-Quay.jpg

The front quay-side garden at Christmas Cottage has delightful views of the famous Helford footbridge and the creek beyond. Just idyllic.

This pretty, two bed roomed former fisherman’s cottage boasts front and rear gardens and private parking for two cars (or one family sized saloon car and an equally sized boat trailer) directly in front of the house. Boats can be launched at high tide from the slip way, seconds from the house. There are many beaches all around the Lizard Peninsula, typically 6-8 miles from Helford Village. Closer river creek beaches can be found at Gillan and St. Anthony. The cottage sleeps 4 and a cot. All guests receive a complimentary welcome pack including tea, coffee, milk and essential holiday items such as Cornish clotted cream, strawberry jam and scones!

Christmas Cottage retains many of its original features including beamed ceilings, walk-in inglenook fireplace and an open fire in the lounge. These features have been sympathetically enhanced during the renovation. We have had all original internal doors dipped, and beams stripped and waxed. We are in the process of  re-installing a traditional carved Cornish porch on the front and have taken off the existing render on the front and have replaced it with a traditional lime finish (in keeping with the other cottages in the picture). An original ship beam, likely to have been from either a wreck or local salvage yard and etched with roman numerals (workers measurements) that we discovered in the loft has been featured in bedroom 2, along with a brass porthole.

The kitchen features cream shaker style units, a Belfast porcelain sink and real granite worktops. The utility room to the rear of the cottage features sky-light windows and a slate tiled roof. The internal wall is exposed to reveal it's original cob and stone construction. All appliances have been purchased new including hob & oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine/tumble dryer. The dining room features a cream farmhouse table with six traditional rush chairs. The low casement window has a built-in cushioned window seat with village views. All beams (both ceiling and inglenook) in the dining room have been stripped back and waxed. Colour schemes of this room are cream and apple green. Again, previously covered walls have been exposed to reveal their original cob and stone build.

The master bedroom at Christmas Cottage features a king-size antique style brass bed with side tables and bedside lamps.Good storage takes the form of a wardrobe and chest of drawers. Village views can be seen from the sashed window which features full length curtains and a pelmet. The colour scheme is white with some lemon and greens.

The second bedroom at Christmas Cottage again has pretty Helford Village views and the sash window has a built in cushioned window seat. It contains two single antique style white wrought iron beds. Good storage takes the form of a built wardrobe and chest of drawers. This room has a nautical / New England theme.

The Lounge features an integral wide-screen TV with video and DVD. Two, two seater sofas are centred round a  rug and the open traditional Pewter fireplace. A side table with lamp gives warm lighting effect in the evening, in addition to the two wall mounted lights either side of the fireplace. The sash window has a cushioned window seat. The colour scheme in this room is beige, golds and muted reds.

Christmas Cottage has a combined toilet and bathroom upstairs that features a traditional role top/claw foot bath with a chrome mixer shower head on a cradle. The bathroom is traditional with a stylish contemporary twist. Natural jute blinds compliment the natural textures of the floor and wall limestone tiles.

To the rear of Christmas Cottage, steps lead up to a delightful woodland south-facing garden which overlooks Helford Village and Creek. A bar-be-que, picnic table and sun lounger chairs are also provided.

The garden to the front of the cottage has a paved sitting out area that leads down to a lawn quay adjacent to a very shallow stream. The view from here is that of Helford Creek and the famous Helford footbridge. The pub and shop are about 500 yards away. Boats can be hired for use on the Helford River.

Christmas Cottage has a private parking area for two cars (or one family sized saloon car and an equally sized boat trailer) directly in front of the house. This is quiet something for Helford! Boats can be launched at high tide from the slip way, seconds from the house.

Christmas cottage is availablle for holiday rental throughout 2009 and beyond. Short breaks during the winter and out of season months are available upon request.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK FOR CHRISTMAS COTTAGE

The customer feedback below is taken from the Visitor Book left at Christmas Cottage and is shown exactly as it appears.

Rob, Sue, Joshua and Rowen from Sheffield. Staying in Christmas Cottage 9th - 16th April 2006.

11.00am Just arrived and wondered round this remarkable cottage! (The lady at Gloster Cottage said it was out of this world!) So this week we are on another planet, paradise for one week. Alison has excelled in vision and taste. Thank you so much....late afternoon - Sat in the inglenook...stove working. Rob sat in the rocking chair and I am sat in front of the fire. If that's not bliss - what is! Boys have learnt how to skim stones over the river......It's now our last night and again we have to say what a lovely week we have had. Christmas Cottage holds a warm and relaxing welcome, to have enjoyed it for just one week has been the best. Thank you once again.

Ted Martin from Nottinghamshire. Staying at Christmas Cottage 7th - 14th May 2006

A delightful, restful retreat and a pleasure to inhabit, regardless of the weather. The lizard is a lovely part of England, especially in the Spring with the roadside and hedgerows-and woods, ablaze with wild garlic, bluebells and even snowdrops all in flower together. Something of a privilidge just to be here. Your team did a wonderful job. Thank you.

Guy & Mel & Robin Pinkham from Gloucestershire. Staying at Christmas Cottage 28th May - 4th June 2006

28/5/06  Guy. As first impressions go I think I'll have to go far to beat our arrival at Christmas Cottage, what a beautiful place this is. The hedgerows are ablaze with colour and the cottage is just wonderful. After a 200 mile plus drive it could not be better. 4/6/06 Well, what a wonderful week we have had. Christmas Cottage is truely home from home! The Helford River and The Lizard are beautiful. We've had so many memorable experiences and met such friendly people. I think it's safe to say we'll be back. Robin will never forget coming close enough to touch a basking shark while windsurfing in Coverack bay! Christmas Cottage is a credit. Thank you. 4/6/06 Mel. Thank you. Christmas Cottage is idyllic; a beautiful cottage, with the most wonderful comfy bed, and you've thought of everything. The sea is beautiful and everyone we have met has made us so welcome. As Guy says a truely wonderful week - only wish we were staying longer! and yes we'd love to come back soon!!! It's such a tranquil, enjoyable place - we totally switched off from work immediately.

Mr & Mrs Eveleigh from Gloucestershire. Staying at Christmas Cottage 18th - 22th June 2006.

This was perfect to re-charge the batteries after a busy 18 months, total peace and seclusion. You've thought of everything in here and have a great eye for detail and design. Truely comfy beds and fabulous furnishings throughout made this a delight to stay in. We felt like statley home curators due to the number of people admiring it during the week - I'm certain you'll now be fully booked as a result! Well done.

Kathryn, Ted and Rebecca from Edinburgh. Staying at Christmas Cottage 2nd July - 9th July 2006.

Everything was wonderful, from cozy furnishings to back garden views to Cornwall Monopoly. We spent most time about The Lizard but managed a great boat trip on The Helford to being chased by local swans, we'll be back!

A beautiful sunny week in lovely surroundings. The cottage is great. What a littel gem Christmas Cottage is! The little bedroom is so sweet, and Ollie loved the boats and the main bedroom is so restful - if we didn't have the early wake up calls from Ollie and Benjamin I would have slept all day!

3.9.06. We've just arrived for the first time in Helford.....on our Honeymoon. Christmas Cottage certainly has "wow" factor and is better than we could ever have imagined from the photographs! The Champagne, truffles and rose petals were the most exquisite touch. Even my new husband was speechless which, I can tell you, is not an easy thing to do! 7.9.06 Have done so much - everywhere is easily accessable from here....from Goonhilly to The Seal Sanctuary....& of course, the delicious 'alfresco' steaks at The Shipwright! Sandbags at the ready today - highest tide for a long while...how romantic we may be "homed in!!" 9.9.06. Oh well, last night & we're off to The Shipwright! Had a fantasic time...loved every minute and hope to come back one day.xxx

Thank you so much for all the thoughtful extra touches that make this cottage so special. From the fresh flowers and treats for the children to the lovely linen and The White Company bathrobes! All much appreciated. This is such a beautiful part of the country - our first trip to Cornwall and definitely not our last! We finished our week with a magical walk through the woods from Frenchman's Creek and some fantastic fireworks to celebrate the Helford Regatta. Wow!!

The Chadwick's from Nottinghamshire. Staying at Christmas Cottage 30th August - 6th September 2009.

Thanks! Great to find peace and quiet, plenty of walking and so close to old haunts such as Kynance Cove (we spent our honeymoon in Cornwall 30 years ago). Our son and daughter enjoyed the "marine room" - porthole is a nice touch! Just need guaranteed sunshine....St Ives in the rain isn't quiet the same; good you had sat TV! Pleased the shop here is well stocked and friendly. P.S. "Sticky Prawn" at Flushing is now The Wharf Cafe but some good food; lemon sole cooked and eaten within 5 yards of where the trawler caught it.

The Dodds party from Windsor. Staying at Christmas Cottage 6th - 13th September 2009.

A great improvement on the old Christmas Cottage. Comfortable beds, attractive decor, and when we mentioned the garden, instant attention - Brilliant! and the weather was great also.
